JOB SUMMARY

Medical receptionists are expected to be compassionate and discrete with superb time management and record-keeping skills. To ensure success, this person should be a confident and professional administrator with fantastic communication and interpersonal skills that will contribute to the efficient day-to-day administration of the healthcare facility. Top candidates will work comfortably under pressure while multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment and can effectively react to patient emergencies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The medical receptionist falls under supervision of the DISH Administrative team; Director, LSL Program Coordinator, Education Coordinator, and the Public Relations Manager.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Purpose:
- Manage and maintain an efficient schedule of appointments for both providers and patients
- Be the “face” of the DISH staff and greet patients with warmth and kindness
- Serve as a point of contact for patients who have scheduling or billing questions
- Maintain a clean and clutter free office that is always properly stocked with inventory
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves patients by greeting and helping them, scheduling appointments, and maintaining records and accounts.
- Welcomes patients and visitors in person or on the telephone, and answering or referring inquiries.
- Optimizes patients’ satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.
- Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient’s arrival, reviewing service delivery compared to schedule, and reminding providers of service delays.
- Comforts patients by anticipating patients’ anxieties, answering patients’ questions, and maintaining the reception area.
- Ensures availability of treatment information by filing, retrieving, and sending patient records via fax or email.
- Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
- Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information, recording and collecting patient charges, controlling credit extended to patients, and filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims.
- Verify insurance benefits for patients prior to their appointments and address billing charges before every appointment.
- Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies, and scheduling equipment service and repairs.
- Keeps provider offices and communal spaces clean, orderly, and stocked on supplies.
- Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.
- Maintains operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or higher
- At least 5 years of experience in a medical office or billing position
- Proficiency with work productivity software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Not Required, but Preferred: Experience verifying insurance benefits on behalf of patients
